Dr. Shelley O’Neill is originally from South Carolina, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Clemson University (Go Tigers!) and her medical degree from the Medical University of SC in Charleston. She moved to California in 1999 to begin her Family Practice residency at UC Davis, Sutter, where she was chief resident and developed a love of obstetrics and taking care of families. After residency, she continued her training in Spokane Washington, completing a year long fellowship in high-risk surgical obstetrics and has delivered more than 300 babies over her career. She also enjoyed the full breadth of Family Medicine and practiced in a wide variety of geographical settings from rural Alaska to inner-city Denver and in different clinical roles, such as inpatient hospitalist medicine, outpatient family practice and academic faculty positions.
In response to her own personal health challenges with Lyme disease, she began a journey of exploration into other systems of healing outside of the allopathic model. As her health improved from those approaches, she began to study them in earnest and was certified in Eden Energy Medicine, Reiki, Western Clinical Herbalism and then became a Classical Homeopath after completing a 4-year training program at the Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy in Minneapolis, MN, the oldest homeopathic school in the United States.
In 2023, she discovered Functional medicine and realized that this was a perfect bridge between the two paths that she had traveled…the best of both the allopathic, science-based approach combined with an individualized, more intuitive approach. She is currently continuing her tradition of life-long learning by pursuing Functional Medicine Certification through the Institute of Functional Medicine and looks forward to utilizing her new found skills as well as the breadth of her prior experience to benefit her future patients at True Health!
